Tuesday 28th March

Glorious weather here for the last few days! Again no runners today but we are still as busy as ever with a full yard plus the summer horses coming back into work.
We have Aintree entries closing tomorrow for 12 races as well as Fairyhouse and Punchestown to look forward to in April!

Saturday 25th March

Busy weekend ahead with 5 runners at Thurles today and 10 at Downpatrick tomorrow;

Thurles:

MIDNIGHT ESCAPE – Davy Russell & WOODS WELL – Bryan Cooper both represent us in the White Gypsy Hurdle, Midnight Escape is in fantastic form at home and travels here today with a really good chance. Woods Well ran well enough last time out but will appreciate the drying ground today, he jumps well and is really genuine.
Next we have DIAMOND KING in the Novice Chase, he was very unlucky at Cheltenham but he thankfully returned home safe and sound, Davy Russell rides. Also in this we have STONE HARD who was slightly disappointing at Navan last time out but has been working very well at home. Jack Kennedy takes the ride.
Lastly we have VICTORY MILL in the Beginners Chase returning from a year off the track he was 4th here on his last run over 3m he’s in good order but will improve for today’s run after such a long time off. Jack Kennedy rides.

Downpatrick – Sunday:

ICARIO was running well when falling at Cheltenham in the Fred Winter, he’s yet to get his head in front and seems to have a case of seconditiis! Bryan Cooper rides.
We have three of nine runners in the Guinness Rated Hurdle; BALLELA BOY – Bryan Cooper returns to the track after a break, he’s done well for his time off and looks to have a nice chance. SANIBEL ISLAND – Jack Kennedy is a nicely consistent horse who stayed on well to win on heavy ground at Navan last time out. SHADOW CATCHER – Denis O’Regan isn’t the luckiest of horses but showed improvement last time out at Thurles to finish 2nd.
2 runners in the next, a Maiden Hurdle; Our own DAWERANN (pictured) returns looking fantastic from a well earned break, he runs well for today’s jockey Cian Collins and benefits from his 7lb claim, he will love todays conditions and we hope for a really good run, best of luck to members! CANOVA – Jack Kennedy will need to show some major improvement on recent performances to factor here but he will appreciate the better ground.
We have 2 again representing us in the feature race, the Toals Bookmakers Ulster National; CAPTAIN VON TRAPPE reverts back to fences today and we hope he can get his head back in the game here today under Luke McGuinness’ 7lb claim. DEFINITE RUBY is a tough little mare, finishing a respectable 7th in this race and running a blinder last time out to win in tough conditions. Jack Kennedy rides.
A new recruit to the yard PRESENTING JULIO is next in the Handicap Chase, his homework is pleasing and he seems in good form at home.
Our last runner of the day COEUR DE BEAUCHENE who finished 3rd on his debut under rules earlier this month, he’s come on at home for the run and is in great order. Jamie Codd rides.

Friday 24th March

Just the one runner today; CAPTAIN K at Dundalk, usually contesting races across the Irish sea he stays on home turf today to take on the Follow @attheraces Twitter Handicap, he’s far from being a stable star but we think he goes with a little chance and we would hope for an improved run from him.

Email will go out to members after 10am regarding Downpatrick.

Thursday 23rd March

5 runners at Cork today where the ground remains heavy;

LEOMAR is up first in the Maiden Hurdle with Bryan Cooper in the saddle, he ran a little too keen last time out and finished very narrowly beaten, he’ll come on from that, should handle the ground again and goes here with a nice chance today.
FLAXEN FLARE is next after a lengthy absence to contest the UCC Horse Racing Society Hurdle, the 2013 Fred Winter winner (pictured) has won here over the same trip so we hope he can return to action with a bang under Jack Kennedy.
BERRY DES AULMES didn’t put his best foot forward last time out but came out of the race fine so we hope he can show some improvement here today after some promising runs on heavy ground prior to that. Bryan Cooper rides.
WOODFORD ISLAND wasn’t himself at all on his latest, usually a consistent individual he made a couple of mistakes that put pay to any chance he had. He goes here today looking and feeling great so we hope he’s back on form in the hands of Jack Kennedy.
Lastly we have BACK BAR in the Bumper with the in form Lisa O’Neill aboard, 2nd on his racecourse debut he’ll be more streetwise this time around and benefits from Lisa’s 5lb claim.

Wednesday 22nd March

Nice double at Clonmel yesterday! No runners but we have 10 horses going galloping to Fairyhouse today – the 10 all hold entries in the upcoming sales Bumpers; the Tattersalls Bumper and the Land Rover Bumper.

It’s a sad day for all at Cullentra as Don Cossack has left for his retirement to Gigginstown House Stud this morning.

Friday 17th March

Incredibly busy day today with 6 runners at Down Royal, 4 at Wexford and 9 at Cheltenham! As we’re under pressure for time we’ll concentrate on the Cheltenham runners on what is the final day of an incredible festival for us!

Up first in the Grade 1 JCB Triumph Hurdle we have MEGA FORTUNE – Davy Russell and DINARIA DES OBEAUX – Bryan Cooper. Mega Fortune is a very exciting individual, he won his first Grade 1 last month and has come out of the race in serious order, we think he has every chance. The more lightly raced Dinaria Des Obeaux has been impressive on all 3 starts but this is a big step up for her here today.
The Randox County Hurdle is next and we have MICK JAZZ – Jack Kennedy and TELL US MORE – Bryan Cooper. The former has been impressive since joining the team and is really coming into himself lately. The latter won his Grade 3 well last time out and is nicely consistent, between the 2 we think we are well represented!
DEATH DUTY takes on the Albert Bartlett with Bryan Cooper in the saddle, obviously he has been seriously impressive throughout his career winning 6 of his 8 starts and he remains unbeaten this season – he’s in top form so all we can do now is cross our fingers and sit back a watch!
The big one of the day is of course the Gold Cup, won last year by the King Of Cullentra himself – Don Cossack! This year we are represented by OUTLANDER who has had a fantastic season, his last outing was an emphatic win in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown and he’s in the form of his life at home. Bryan Cooper rides. Can we take home the Gold Cup for a consecutive year? We certainly hope so!!
The Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle is next and we have 3 runners; CHAMPAGNE CLASSIC – J.J Slevin, RUNFORDAVE – Donagh Meyler and TAGLIETELLE – Cian Collins. Unfortunately our biggest hope for this race The Storyteller misses the race but we feel between the 3 we have a strong hand – Taglietelle, although seemingly out of form lately ran absolute blinders here in the Pertemps last year and the Coral Cup the year before so lets hope a track he clearly loves can bring him back to life! Runfordave is a tough cookie who always puts a genuine performance and he’s in good hands with todays jockey. Champagne Classic is yet to finish out of the money in any of his starts and we hope he can keep it that way today!
The final race of the Festival is the Johnny Henderson in which we have the very consistent THE GAME CHANGER, a firm favorite in the yard he always gives it his all and is so consistent! We would hope his last run was an anomaly and if he puts his best foot forward today he’s right in there with a great chance! Bryan Cooper rides.

Thursday 16th March

Wow! This week just gets better and better!

Day 3 of Cheltenham:

First up we have JURY DUTY – Jack Kennedy and SUTTON MANOR – Lisa O’Neill in the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle, Jury Duty has been a fantastic horse for his owners and has held his own in some competitive Handicaps, in both his wins and most of his best runs Jack has been on board so we hope for a great effort. Sutton Manor is a very consistent individual and also gets on well with todays jockey, he heads to Cheltenham on the back of his Thurles win using Lisa’s valuable 5lb claim.
EMPIRE OF DIRT contests the Ryanair Chase with Bryan Cooper in the saddle, he commands big respect after his Troytown win and his 2nd in the Irish Gold Cup, the course and distance winner travelled over in great order and we hope he won’t be far away.
DEDIGOUT takes on the Stayers Hurdle, also partnered by Bryan Cooper. A great horse in his day he’s the winner of multiple Graded races but with his last win back in 2015 this could be a big ask however he isn’t without a chance!
Last years Coral Cup winner DIAMOND KING is next in the Brown & Merribelle Handicap Chase with Davy Russell on board, obviously he goes with a serious chance after last year and has progressed to chasing well, fingers crossed he can do the double!
BARRA represents us in the Trull House Mares Hurdle, she faced a big ask last time out at Leopardstown in the Grade 1 Deloitte but held her own, a small little mare what she lacks in size she makes up for in heart and we hope for a nice run today. Bryan Cooper rides.
Last but not least we have SQUOUATEUR and Jamie Codd in the Kim Muir, he showed some improvement last time out at Naas after being a little hit and miss, his last win was over a year ago but he jumps for fun and we think he will enjoy the race.

Wednesday 15th March

Wow – what an unreal day yesterday, a treble on Day 1!!

Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival!

First up we have BRELADE – Jack Kennedy and SHATTERED LOVE – Bryan Cooper in the Grade 1 Neptune Investment Management Novice Hurdle. Brelade, a 5 year old son of Presenting has been very consistent for us and ran some blinders, finishing 2nd and 3rd on both his Grade 1 starts he’s progressing into a fine young horse and we hope for another great run from him. Shattered Love is one of the biggest mares in the yard, she has been very impressive winning 4 of her 7 starts under rules and is yet to finish out of the first 3, this will be her biggest ask to date but we are confident in her abilities and she goes with a nice chance.
In the Coral Cup we have AUTOMATED – Jack Kennedy and TOMBSTONE – Bryan Cooper. Automated faces the biggest day of his career in this Grade 3, he gets on really well with Jack Kennedy and has a nice little chance in this, the pick of our 2 however is obviously Tombstone, he put up his most impressive run to date last time out beating multiple Grade 1 winner Jezki at Gowran Park.
2 again in the Glenfarclas Cross Country; BLESS THE WINGS – Davy Russell and CAUSE OF CAUSES – Jamie Codd. Both these horses jump for fun and they will be in their element here! Obviously due to his 2 previous Cheltenham wins Cause Of Causes looks to have the upper hand but Bless The Wings will keep his head down and keep on galloping, they are both honest and tough and we expect good runs from both.
In the Fred Winter we have DAKOTA MOIRETTE – Bryan Cooper and ICARIO – Jack Kennedy. Dakota Moirette looks to be the better of the 2 on form but Icario is consistent, this will be a big ask for both horses but they haven’t travelled over without a chance and we hope for some good luck for both!
Finally in the Champion Bumper we have FAYONAGH partnered by Jamie Codd, she was very impressive on her yard debut at Fairyhouse last month and now has 2 Bumper wins under her belt, she couldn’t be in better hands with Jamie on board and we expect a decent run!

Tuesday 14th March

It’s finally here! After months of preparation all we can do now is sit back and watch!

On Day 1 we have 5 runners:

The tricky LABAIK is up first in the Supreme Novice Hurdle, what can we say – he’s got a great engine and loads of ability but he’s just a bit too clever for his own good! In recent weeks he’s had plenty of days out hunting to try to sweeten him up. If he decides to start he has a very credible chance so fingers crossed the Cheltenham Roar will give him the help along he needs! Jack Kennedy rides.
Our next runners are in the Ultima Handicap Chase in which we have 2 representatives; CLARCAM – Bryan Cooper and NOBLE ENDEAVOR – Davy Russell. Obviously on his best days Clarcam is top class but he can be inconsistent and his latest run wasn’t one of his best – however if he puts in one of his better performances he still has a great chance. Noble Endeavor was the emphatic winner of the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown back in December and heads to Cheltenham looking and feeling a million dollars, Davy Russell retains the ride.
APPLES JADE is our next runner in the OLBG Mares Hurdle, this is a seriously hot race but she goes with a decent chance, this race looks to be one of the most exciting of the day for us and there is sure to be a nail biting finish! Bryan Cooper takes the ride.
TIGER ROLL contests the JT McNamara Amateur Chase in the capable hands of Lisa O’Neill who has been having a fantastic season – he jumps like a buck and is in seriously good form at home so we hope he can provide Lisa with a fantastic Cheltenham Festival experience!
